Obituary of Diolinda Antonio Vieira
Diolinda Antonio Vieira, age 97, of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Anthony Vieira, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024. Born in Ludlow, Massachusetts on November 3, 1926, she was a daughter of the late David and Maria Guerra Antonio.
At the young age of 3, she returned to her family's hometown of Soutelinho da Raia, Chaves, Portugal, where she lived until the age of 14. In 1941, she returned to the United States and settled in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she raised her family. She and her husband Anthony, lived in Stratford, until his death in 1993. In 1998, she moved with her family to Trumbull.
Diolinda was a devout Catholic and took great joy in helping those in need, always sacrificing her own wants and needs for others. She was also an expert seamstress who was highly skilled in many forms of needlework; she especially enjoyed crocheting and needlepoint and created countless beautiful handiworks.
Above all, Diolinda enjoyed spending time with her family. She treasured the times when everyone was together creating memories to last a lifetime. Diolinda will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Diolinda is lovingly remembered by her children: a son, Anthony Vieira and a daughter, Joan Vieira-Lazaroff (Michael); a cherished and adored granddaughter, Emma Lazaroff (Benjamin); as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Anthony Vieira; three brothers, Joaquim (Izabel), Anibal (Gladys), and Mario (Rachel) Antonio; and a sister, Mary Antonio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. At Diolinda's request, there will be no calling hours.
The family would like to thank her caregivers Evadne, Henriette, and Julia for their companionship and compassion for Diolinda. We'd also like to thank the nurses and staff at Cambridge Rehabilitation and Constellation hospice.
