Obituary of Robert M. Pickett

Robert M. Pickett, age 87, of Monroe, beloved husband of Jo Ann (Chiatroni) Pickett passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2024 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Bridgeport on June 14, 1937, he was a son of the late Patrick and Jane (Franchi) Pickett. Mr. Pickett attended Central High School and RCA Institute in NYC. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from BEI in Fairfield, CT. Bob made his professional life as an engineer in the defense and aerospace industries. For more than 35 years he worked at Perkin Elmer as a manager in the Optical Group specializing at different times in reliability engineering, product and components assurance and program management where he traveled extensively.

Among projects that Bob worked on were the KH9 Hexagon Spy Satellite and the Hubbell Space Telescope. He was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He also belonged to the American Gaelic Club.

Bob loved working in his yard, he built two homes and always had a project of some kind to work on. He loved traveling and looked forward to the yearly visit to Aruba with his wife. A lifelong fan of the NY Giants and Boston Red Sox, he tried hard to never miss a game.

In addition to his beloved wife Jo Ann of 62 years, other survivors include his devoted children, Michael Pickett and his wife Angel of Orange, Lauri Matis and her husband Joseph of Huntsville, AL, and Karen Kennedy of Southbury, his cherished grandchildren, Lindsay Matis, Kevin Matis, Jennifer Matis, Nicole Matis, Matthew Geffert, Zachary Geffert, Madelyn Pickett and Michael Pickett, Jr., and his brother, Joseph Howard and his wife Minda of Ireland. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Pickett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10:00 am directly in St. Stephen Church, 6948 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Monroe.
