Obituary of Marie P. Stapkowski
Marie Stapkowski, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on June 1st 2024 at the age of 87.
Born on December 29th,1936, in Norwalk, Marie was the daughter of Joseph (Giosue) and Antoinette Gerardi Genuario. Marie is predeceased by her loving husband, Alfred, and her brother, Msgr. William A. Genuario, and is survived by her children: Diane Calabro, Joan Stapkowski, Marion Toth, Andrea Douyard, Sandra Knierim, Donna Jones, Daniel Stapkowski and her grandchildren: Julia, Sarah, Bridget, Emily, Erin, Chloe, Grace, Charlotte, and Samuel.
Marie graduated from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in 1957 and, while balancing the demands of a large family, dedicated over 40 years to Norwalk Hospital and Fairfield University. She also spent many happy summers as a camp nurse for both the Boy Scouts and the YMCA.
Marie was a long-time parishioner of the St. Luke Catholic Church in Westport. She served as an active volunteer, Eucharistic Minister, and soup kitchen coordinator. She lived in Westport for over 50 years before moving to Trumbull’s Teresian Towers where she formed many precious friendships in the last years of her life.
Marie lived a life full of love and dedication to her family, faith and community. Her kind heart, compassion, and sense of humor touched the lives of all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 am meeting directly in St. Luke Church, 49 Turkey Hill Rd N., Westport. Interment will be held privately. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. To leave an online condolence, visit www.abriola.com.
