Obituary of Joanne Cennamo-Mauro

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Joanne Cennamo Mauro, age 68 of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Alfonse Mauro. Joanne peacefully entered into heaven on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving children at her bedside. Born in Bridgeport on July 6, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy Knapp Cennamo.

Joanne was so many things to many people, a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. But whatever title she held, she did each of them with love. Reflecting on her younger years, you'd find Joanne wearing a new dress and disco dancing the night away. On any given day, her free spirit and long red hair would be riding on the back of a loud Harley, mostly with her husband and son, who she often enjoyed riding with. After retiring as a material logistics manager at Bridgeport Hospital, Joanne continued with her many interests. If a sale was happening at the Christmas Tree Shop, she would be there with her daughter, stocking her cart from party supplies to candles and hand towels. Her biggest hobby was her extreme love of salt and pepper shakers, as she attended conventions and collected thousands to display in her home showcases. She certainly had "seasoned" her home with love.

If Joanne wasn't gardening and weeding, she was enjoying her time at Lone Oaks Campsite, where she spent many weekends with her family, riding in the golf cart, playing Bingo, and going to several tag sales. Joanne always caught a good bargain! With her variety of craft supplies, Joanne loved to needle-point, stitch, and glue special momentos. She had great attention to detail, always prepared and organized. Her family will miss her love of decorating, especially her personalized Christmas ornaments, which always made them feel so special and celebrated throughout the years.

But Joanne's best role was that of "Grammy," as she was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren. She spoiled, played, and loved them each in their own way. The power of their innocence and the love between them, allowed Joanne to stay a little healthier, a little longer. We are forever grateful for that special grandma love.

Joanne is survived by her adoring children and grandchildren; a son, Brian Mauro and wife Lisa, and their children Brian Jr. and Mia, and her daughter, Kristin Mauro, and her children Bradley and Peyton. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Cennamo, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her sister Patricia Otero.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 10:30 am directly at St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton St., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT.
