Obituary of Carmella Tufaro DeGirolamo

Carmella Tufaro DeGirolamo, age 86, of Milford, beloved wife of 59 years to the late Mario DeGirolamo, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 28, 1937, in Casalba, Province of Caserta, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Josephine Tartaglia Tufaro.

 

Carmella was a retired employee of Remington Shavers and was also formerly employed by Bridgeport Hospital, working in the nursery. A long with her late husband, she loved traveling to Italy and visit friends in Israel. She enjoyed cooking, canning fruits and vegetables, making homemade pasta and sausage, gardening, crocheting and knitting. Affectionately called Nonnie by her grandchildren, and Mrs. D to the neighborhood kids, she was often at her son’s little league games and practices, brought everyone to swim lessons and gave cooking lessons to her daughter’s classmates from St. Ann’s School. She loved taking her grandchildren to Disney on Ice, Broadway shows and just spending time with them.

 

Carmella was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother, the unconditional love and care she provided will always live in their hearts. She will be truly missed by all who loved her.

 

Survivors include three loving children, Michael DeGirolamo and his wife Sharon Blomgren of Oxford, Lisa Spiegel and her husband Robert of Milford and Anthony DeGirolamo and his wife Sheryl Toth of Milford, five cherished grandchildren, Robert Jr. (Christina), and Nicholas Spiegel (Samantha), Michael Jr., Alexandra and Giana Rose DeGirolamo, two sisters, Maria Giacobbe (Giovanni) and Nancy Trombetta, two brothers, Pasquale Tufaro (Ann), John Tufaro (Kris), as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Spiegel, a brother and his wife, Vincent and Giovanna Tufaro and brother-in-law, Louis Trombetta.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ann Church (St. Raphael Parish), 501 Naugatuck Ave., Milford. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery, Milford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
