As a former member and officer of Msgr. Murphy Council K of C, and its 4th Degree Assembly I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my Brother Sir Knight Sam. I recall with great fondness and admiration, Sam and Dee’s loyalty, support, and love for the Knights. It was their combined support, and many contributions that earned them, in 1997, the Council’s recognition as “Family of The Year.” Later that same year, Sir Knight Sam earned the Council’s highest honor, “Knight of the Year.” An Honorary Life member, Sir Knight Sam always remained true to the Order’s principles of Unity, Charity, and Fraternity, just as he always remained true to God, Family, and Country. To the entire Cortello Family: Sincere condolences on the loss of Sam “Pennies from Heaven” Cortello. All that you can do at this moment, to somewhat alleviate your grief, is to recall and cherish the many happy events that you had with “Sam and Dee”. I have many such memories of our participation at St Patrick’s School and Church. Particularly organizing dinner-dances, Cake Sales and even a weekend Carnival. We would invariably corral Sam to sing Sinatra songs but I’m sure that his favorite was “Pennies from Heaven” and, perhaps, “My Way”. RIP, Sam, I hope that you find tons of Pennie’s “Up There”. It is with extreme sorrow that I learn of the passing of Sam Cortello. We had many beautiful family trips together in the last 50 years that will forever hold precious memories! I hope Sam is already reunited with his beloved wife Dee on the other side. My sincerest condolences to Sue, Louis, and Tina and their families.
