Obituary of Helen M. Banas

Helen Baricko Banas, age 95, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Joseph R. Banas Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2023 in the comfort of her home with her daughter by her side. Born on November 27, 1927 in Bridgeport, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Kanas Baricko.

Helen married the love of her life, Joseph in 1951 in Grand Rapids, MI and soon after moved to Trumbull, where they would reside together for over 60 years. She was an incredible cook and enjoyed when everyone was together celebrating and enjoyed family vacations. In her younger years Helen loved dancing at the Ritz Ballroom and could often be found singing around the house. She was very active in her children’s lives growing up and was a strong but stern woman.

But above all she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother who cared deeply for her family. The unconditional love she gave and the values she taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her loving children, her loving and supportive daughter, Nancy Ellen Banas of Bridgeport, two sons, Joseph R. Banas Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC and Stephen C. Banas of Bridgeport three grandchildren, Elizabeth Liles and her husband Matthew, Joseph R. Banas III and his wife Christina, and Carson Beckett, three adored great grandchildren, Michael, Tyler and Haley, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Michael R. Banas, a brother, Donald S. Baricko and a sister, Marion Fisher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
