Obituary of Julia Rose Bronder

Julia Wilson Bronder, 85, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023 surrounded by her loving children at Bethel Health Care Center, Bethel. Born in New Zealand, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Eileen (Worsdale) Wilson. She was the beloved wife of Joachim Bronder, who predeceased her in 1999. Mrs. Bronder attended Otago University Teachers' College and Canterbury Universities in NZ and Fairfield University in CT. She taught in New Zealand, Australia, England and then in the U.S. She treasured her time as English professor at the University of Bridgeport, where she also served as Director of their Learning Center. Julia also co-founded the German Language School of CT and served as the Director of the Leo J. Ryan Education Foundation. Upon her husband's early-onset dementia, Julia became involved with the Alzheimer's Association and helped pass various state legislation. Her talents did not end there, and her beautiful voice afforded her the opportunity to sing solo for the Queen of England as a teen and later in various choral groups including the Connecticut Grand Opera Company. Julia was an avid traveler who went on many memorable trips, including when she moved from Australia to Europe via ship, visiting many countries along the way, allowing her the rare opportunity to explore inside the Great Pyramid in Egypt. She and her husband had their first son while living in Switzerland, before they moved to the U.S in the mid-sixties. Her greatest enjoyment was found surrounded by her family and friends, especially at her home on Pinewood Lake. She loved entertaining, cooking gourmet meals, playing scrabble, and reading. Julia was a wealth of knowledge and interesting tales, and could always be counted on to correct her children's grammar. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her loving children, Justin Bronder and his wife Yu-Tze Chang of San Jose, CA, Jonathan Bronder and his girlfriend Debbie Wilson Wright of Trumbull, and Vanessa Alward and her husband Stephen of Redding, her cherished grandchildren, Elena and Sophia Bronder-Chang, and Emily, Jackson and Kian Alward, alongside various family members around the world. She was predeceased by her brothers Garth and Geoffrey Wilson. Friends may visit with the family on 19th June 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and are invited to share words of remembrance starting at 6:15 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd, Trumbull.
