Obituary of Ruth M. Norell

Ruth Margaret Jankowski Norell, age 85, of Trumbull, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 in the comfort of her home. She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Hjalmar Norell, her two daughters, Nancy Norell Zarrella and her husband Christopher, Nicole Norell Lay, and her three cherished grandchildren, Oliver Ingraham Lay, Meredith Margaret Lay and Owen Hjalmar Lay. She was predeceased by her daughter Natalie Norell Kozdeba and her brother Joseph P. Jankowski Jr.

Born on September 30, 1937 in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Margaret Oros Jankowski. Along with her husband Hjalmar they owned and operated Norell Builders. They built their home, raised their three children and we are an integral part of the village of Nichols community for over 60 years.

Ruth was a parishioner of Nichols United Methodist Church where she enthusiastically served on their Women's Group. She was a past member of the Scandinavian Club in Fairfield. Ruth was also a strong supporter of the Nichols Fire Department and a participant in the Hilltop Neighborhood Book Club.

Ruth had a kind heart, an infectious smile and enjoyed the laughter and camaraderie of her friends. She enjoyed comforting and assisting others in a time of need. Above all else, Ruth was a dedicated spouse and relished the time she spent with her three grandchildren. She flourished and beamed with pride observing her three grandchildren thrive on the athletic fields, exceed in academics and most importantly, fulfill her with an abundance of joy. She will be missed but never forgotten.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in the Nichols United Methodist Church, 35 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd.
