Obituary of William L. Maher

William L. Maher, 78, beloved husband of Maureen (Gerathy) Maher of Trumbull, passed away Wednesday August 3rd, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital.

William, known to friends and family as Bill, was born to parents Leo and Verna Maher in Rochester, New York on March 15, 1944. He later moved with his parents and four brothers to Miami, Florida where he graduated high school. Bill had a lifelong love of music which began at a young age. After his time serving in the U.S. Army in Vicenza, Italy, he traveled throughout Europe, working as a musician. Bill continued playing music after returning to the United States, met and married the love of his life Maureen, and they traveled throughout the country, eventually settling in Trumbull, CT. He worked for the State of Connecticut for 29 years, and retired as a permit inspector, allowing more time to pursue his love of golf (he was a four handicap!). Bill also enjoyed spending time with his family, watching UConn basketball, and spoiling his granddogs.

In addition to Maureen, his beloved wife of 50 years, Bill leaves behind two loving daughters and their husbands, Christine and Jason Roberts of Hingham, MA, and Traci and David Galla of Trumbull, CT; a brother, Thomas Maher of Asheville, NC; a sister-in-law, Connie Maher of Banner Elk, NC; four cherished grandchildren, Macey, Aaron, Cole and Sean; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by three of his brothers, James, Robert and Fred.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A short service of remembrance will take place at 6:30. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to America’s Vet Dogs, 371 Middle Country Road, Smithtown, New York 11787 or at www.vetdogs.org.
