Obituary of Robert W. Gaylord Sr.

Robert W. Gaylord Sr., age 80, of Daytona Beach, FL and formerly of Monroe CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in Indigo Palms Assisted Living Facility in Daytona Beach, Florida. Born on June 28, 1942, he was a son of the late Daniel and Josephine Azzarito Gaylord.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a retired employee of Sikorsky Aircraft. He also was employed by Avco Lycoming and Sears Auto Center for a time. He was the proud owner of "Gaylord's Sunoco" on Main Street in Bridgeport for many, many years where he formed many lasting friendships. He was an avid Yankees fan. He loved to work on old cars and his ultimate favorite car was the Cadillac. You could always find one in his driveway. He loved the water and boating and would take strolls around Seaside Park. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and his many dogs. He loved to work in the yard and could be seen planting flowers in the Spring. He always had a kind word or a funny joke to tell, especially while enjoying a cold beer and his favorite whiskey with friends. He was a generous, charming and fair man with a loving heart and contagious smile. Though he had many trials and tribulations in his life, he overcame them all, and became wiser with age.

Survivors include his three loving children, Karen Esposito and her husband Frank of Oxford, Robert W. Gaylord Jr., of Milford and Raymond Gaylord and his wife Jennifer of Shelton, his three cherished granddaughters, Stephanie Kotick of San Antonio TX and Samantha and Tiffany Gaylord, of Shelton, a sister, Sarah Gilles of MA, his former spouse, Janet Mischik, of Monroe, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Daniel, James, Maryann and Noreen.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Military Honors will be rendered at the funeral home at 7 pm. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or the Wounded Warriors Project at woundedwarriorsproject.org
