I don't remember ever not knowing Eric or Emily--though factually I didn't meet him before 2008 when I first attended Ave Maria Law School. He truly was a kind and gentle soul with a concurrent underlying impish presence about him. I felt we were friends when we first met, and I easily sensed his deep love for Emily. After Jenny and I began our own post-law school adventure I lost touch with Eric and Emily but never forgot them. I join with his family in sorrow for his loss, he truly made the world better. Perhaps the best way to honor his legacy is to do as he wished " in sorrow, seek happiness". Thank you, Eric, for touching my own life for good. Rest in peace, My Friend. The world is better for your brief time here, and for the beautiful family you created with Emily. Someday I'm sure we will meet again. With Love, Elijah

Eric and his wife were the first people I met at the University of Michigan Law School. I remember him with a smile, just like in the photo. You will be missed Eric.

Dear Emily and Family, We are heart broken and still in shock. We're so sorry we are not in Connecticut right now. We drove past our Wymount apartments on Thursday night thinking about you and Eric and our time in college. His obituary is so incredibly touching. He always had a way about him that lifted others around him. He was always concerned for humanity, and he was an amazing friend! I don't know that I have ever met a more humble and Christlike man. Men could (and often do) live ten lifetimes and not achieve so much, nor be so very loved. I, for one, shall never pick up my Dostoevsky without remembering and celebrating Eric's passion and insights. His book recommendations are forever in my reading to do lists and I was thrilled to sometimes discover he was reading one of my favourites with the girls. Our hearts ache deeply for you all. May the very many cherished ways that you shared mortal joys together, pour unending balm into your souls. May Father hold him close now, and heal him too.

Our favorite memory of Eric was apple picking with the whole family last October. Eric was such a great friend. We shared a keen interest in history and literature. All of us are deeply saddened by his passing. Such friends are rare in a lifetime. He is already sorely missed. --Iain Martin
