Obituary of Robert Irving Sherwood
Robert Irving Sherwood, age 96, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Marion Kichinko Sherwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 24, 1925 in New Haven, he was a son of the late John Sherwood and Ann Novacsek Tamborine. A proud World War II U.S. Navy veteran, Robert was a member and past Commander of the VFW Post 10059, Trumbull. After his retirement from Bridgeport Machines, Robert went on to work for the Town of Trumbull for many years. He worked for and drove for the Trumbull EMS and the Trumbull Senior Center. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing. But above all he loved to be with his family and his little pup Angel. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Robert will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children, Paula Zuber, Lauren Freer and her fiancé Tony Grasso, Robert Sherwood, and Terry Sherwood, grandchildren, Joci Birdsall and her husband Nick, Stefan Zuber, Jacki Esposito, Kenny Freer and his wife Courtney and Jacob Santiago, great grandchildren, Bella and Novali, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Sherwood, a grandson, Christopher Freer, two great grandchildren, Koedy and Halie and his sister, Anna Mae Pomerank. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Simon, Roberts aide who cared for him for the last four years. Simon was very patient, caring, helpful and loving and took care of Robert as if he were his own family. Also, a sincere thank you to Barbara and Luba for their professional care shown to Robert in his final days. The family appreciates all the love and care given to him from all of his healthcare professionals. The family would like to thank Roberts incredible neighbors, Pete and RoseEllen for all the care and helpfulness given to Robert through the years, we love you with all our hearts.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 11:15 from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 12:00 p.m. in Three Saints Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Ave., Ansonia. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and may greet the family Thursday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
