Obituary of Peter P. Caligiure Sr.

Peter P. Caligiure Sr., age 93, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Mona McClune Caligiure, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Anthony and Marietta Giannone Caligiuri. Pete was a 1947 graduate of Warren Harding High School, a member of the carpenters union as well as a long time driver for Buckley Brothers Oil.

If you knew Pete, no doubt he left a lasting impact on your life. He is warmly remembered as the carpentry teacher and beloved "Coach Cal" of the Girl's Varsity Basketball team at Bullard Havens Technical School. Pete continued to be an active member of the Fairfield County Football Officials Association where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018 for 60 consecutive years of officiating the game he loved. Every Sunday for over 50 years, one would find Pete at the door of the sanctuary of Black Rock Church in Fairfield welcoming you with a weekly church bulletin, a big smile, a warm hug and surely a word to make you laugh. As a member of Black Rock Church, Pete served the Young at Heart and Seniors of the Rock groups for over 25 years. He also played in the Bell Choir, performing concerts at local nursing homes. An avid golfer, Pete was a member of the Monday Morning Men's Golf League at Short Beach as well as a snowbird golfer during the winter in North Port Florida. Prior to the lockdowns due to the Covid infection, Pete worked as a faithful volunteer for 15 years at the Jewish Home for the Elderly where he was awarded a certificate of merit for service. As a resident of Trumbull for 64 years, one of Pete's favorite volunteer activities was to serve as a poll worker in his beloved town.

Next to the love of his life of 61 years, Mona, Pete had a fierce love for his family, his friends and his country, proudly serving in the National Guard. He lived sacrificially and gave generously.

He is survived by his son, Peter P. Caligiure II and his wife Cheryl of Trumbull, a daughter, Robin Hannibal and her husband Donald of Monroe, four grandchildren, Matthew Caligiure and his wife Bethany, Sara Caligiure Labbate and her husband Frank, David Hannibal and his wife Leah and Rachel Hannibal. He adored his 4 great grandchildren, Peter and Nico Caligiure, Jaxon Labbate and James Hannibal. He is survived by a sister, Marian Caligiuri Pace as well as several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by a brother, Joseph Caliguri. and a sister Angie Galante.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service celebrating his life on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Black Rock Congregational Church, 3685 Black Rock Tnpk., Fairfield, CT 06825.
