Obituary of John E. DiLalla

John E. DiLalla, age 94, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Bel Air Manor in Newington. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Lucy) DiLalla, the true love of his life, with whom he was able to celebrate 70 beautiful years of marriage before her passing in July of 2020. Born in Bridgeport on January 6, 1927, he was the son of the late Michael and Emma (Garofalo) DiLalla. A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, having served honorably during World War II, John found a career in the grocery industry, where he built numerous lifelong friendships along the way. A man of strong Catholic faith, he could be found reading the Bible daily and meditating in prayer. He also enjoyed reading books about military and political history and could often be found in his recliner enjoying his crossword puzzles and word searches. John was meticulous with his yard and tending to his pool, welcoming family, neighbors, and friends to a good old-fashioned barbeque on the weekends. He was an avid football fan. To his family, his love and mastery of the Super Mario Brothers games on his Nintendo will be a greatly cherished memory. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his loving daughters, Nancy Pires and her husband Antonio of Bridgeport and Noel Sherman and her husband Anthony of Kensington.  In addition to his daughters and sons-in-law, he leaves behind his cherished granddaughters of whom he was so incredibly proud, Celina Bair and her husband Eli, Olivia Young and her husband Suthod and Katie Sherman. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Evelyn, he was predeceased by his brother, Arnold DiLalla.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff of Bel Air Manor in Newington for the compassion and care they provided to John during this last phase of his life, especially Janet Opuku and Bobby Goins, whose friendship and kindness will never be forgotten.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Rd., Trumbull.
