Obituary of Sally Ann Ciccia

Sally A. Gronberg Ciccia, of Stratford, Connecticut, passed away on October 9, 2021 at the age of 92, surrounded by her adoring family.

Sally was born on October 26, 1928 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Edna and Arthur Gronberg. She graduated from Bassick High School in 1946. As an Officer of Social Activities for the Class of 1946, Sally remained part of the Reunion Committee for many years. Following graduation, Sally attended Weylister Junior College.

While living in Bridgeport and Fairfield with her family, Sally was a devoted homemaker and called this her career; yet, she was employed at March of Dimes, Read’s, and Howland’s Department Store. Sally was a dedicated volunteer with Bridgeport Hospital Volunteer Services for over 25 years which earned her the prestigious Presidential Call to Service Award by President George Bush. Upon moving to Oronoque Village, Sally joined the Oronoque Village House and Garden Club.

Sally was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was as genuine as they come; her smile, wisdom, and wonderful wit made her a joy to be around. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who loved her family more than anything else. Sally especially loved Black Rock and enjoyed the beach and boating with her husband of 50 years – Joe, the love of her life. Her calendar was always full with family functions and gatherings; celebrating the achievements and milestones of her loved ones was the center of her life.

Sally’s hobbies included knitting, gardening, reading, and journaling; however, she took the most pride in being the “Queen” of word jumbles. She looked forward to Fridays for time with her Rummikub and card “gals.”

Sally is survived by her five children: Deborah Grosso and her husband Robert Grosso, Karen Giaquinto and her husband Anthony Giaquinto, Ronald Ciccia and his wife Barbara Ciccia, Joseph Ciccia and his wife Cindy Ciccia, and daughter Gayle Ciccia; her twelve grandchildren: Robert Grosso, Ellen Grosso, Anthony Giaquinto, Paul Giaquinto, Alana Ciccia Katzen, Kaila Ciccia Katzen, Michael Klein, Justin Klein, Ashley Gomes, Nicole Ciccia, Sarah Ciccia, and Tyler Ciccia; her fifteen great-grandchildren: Brandon Grosso, Anthony, Chloe, and Jackson Giaquinto, Mason and Joseph Giaquinto, Lexi Almeida, Sophia, Lily, and Michael Klein, Dylan and Logan Klein, Dominic, Kaiden and Audrey Gomes; as well as her sister in law Janice Uhrynowski and her five nieces and nephews. Sally is predeceased by her husband Joseph Ciccia and sister Nancy G. Hamilton.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.  A walk-through visitation will start from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects, and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.

Donations in her memory may be sent to the Stratford VNA, 3060 Main St., Stratford, CT 06614 and the Connecticut Foodbank, www.ctfoodbank.org.
