Obituary of Carlos Saturnino Castro
We celebrate the much beloved life and memory of Carlos Saturnino Castro. Carlos was born on August 10, 1979 in San Salvador, El Salvador. Not long after Carlos’ birth, his parents—Saturnino and Dora—emigrated with him from El Salvador to the United States in search of a better life. After beginning their new life here, the family continued to expand and Carlos’ cherished siblings Monica, Josh, and Dora soon joined him. The family eventually settled in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Carlos grew up with his siblings as well as his cousin, Noe, who he considered to be a brother. After his father remarried, Carlos was overjoyed by the arrival of his sister Rebecca, with whom he shared a special bond.
Carlos attended Central Magnet High School where he excelled in all academic areas and graduated as one of the top ten students in his class. Because of his intelligence, talent, and strong work ethic, upon admission to the University of Connecticut (UCONN), Carlos was awarded the Day of Pride Scholarship—a full merit scholarship earned each year by only a small number of outstanding Connecticut high school seniors. He received his bachelor’s degree cum laude in marketing at UCONN in 2001 and accepted an offer to join Marketing Management Analytics (MMA) after graduation. His pursuit of higher education blazed the trail for his younger siblings. Thanks to Carlos’ steadfast example, coaching and success, his siblings Monica, Josh, and Dora each received their bachelor degrees. But their older brother did not stop there, Carlos also used his network and reputation to secure his sisters’ and brother’s first jobs at MMA, helping to launch their own successful careers.
Not long after graduating from UCONN, Carlos married his high school sweetheart, Corinne, and they had two children together, Cailynn Amanda and Cristian Carlos. Carlos always said that Cailynn and Cristian were the light of his life, and over the years he loved watching them learn and mature into exemplary young adults. Despite his demanding schedule and work that brought him to the far reaches of the world, Carlos always arranged his schedule to attend Cailynn and Cristian’s games, tournaments, and performances. Carlos derived immense satisfaction from the beautiful children they raised.
In addition to being proud of his family, Carlos also gained significant personal fulfillment from his career. Mirroring his own parents’ strong example, Carlos worked tremendously hard to provide for his family, sacrificing his time and energy at the office to provide a better life for them. After graduating from college and beginning his job at MMA, Carlos quickly progressed to become Vice President of Account Management. In the ensuing years, Carlos brought his extensive marketing analytics expertise to several other companies and travelled the world extensively to build an impressive global network of clients.
Carlos had a sarcastic wit and a charming personality that always seemed to make others gravitate toward him. But he was also a dynamic person with many varied interests. Carlos was a longtime fan of the Huskies, Patriots, and Mets. He relished taking his children to see the Mets play in the World Series in 2015. In fact, Carlos’s love of sports was so acute that he always seemed to need ESPN’s SportsCenter playing in the background to fall asleep.
Although he initially was uninterested in musical theater and admitted to falling asleep when he first saw Les Misérable on Broadway, Carlos became an enthusiastic supporter of Broadway theater while working in New York, attending more than fifty Broadway musicals and plays. And somehow Carlos came around to enjoying Les Mis as well because the show eventually became one of his favorite musicals. He loved seeing big-budget blockbuster movies on opening weekends and occasionally during a very long weekday “lunch break.” Somehow Carlos also managed to see nearly every film nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award each year. And, although Carlos was not a classically trained musician, he had certainly mastered the air guitar.
Carlos loved to travel, particularly when it involved spending time with family on vacation. His many adventures included family trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland.
Carlos passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, September 19, 2021. He is survived by: his children Cailynn Amanda and Cristian Carlos of Hamden, CT; his wife Corinne Elaine of Hamden, CT; parents Saturnino Castro (Virginia) of Fairfield, CT and Dora Fay (Geoffrey) of Easton, CT; siblings Monica Castro (fiancé Eric Pereira) of Charlotte, NC, Dora Eang (Viset) of Huntersville, NC, Josue “Josh” Castro of Bridgeport, CT, and Rebecca Castro of Fairfield, CT; brother/cousin Noe Castro (Erin) of Stratford, CT; niece Emma Eang and nephew Camden Eang of Huntersville, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, additional nieces and nephews, and extended family.
Although he was called home to eternal rest far too soon, collectively, we—as his family and friends—will always be grateful to God for the opportunity to love and be loved by Carlos Saturnino Castro.
In celebration of Carlos’s life, flowers may be sent to Abriola Parkview Funeral Home.
