Obituary of Emil Justo
Emil Justo, age 96, of Shelton, CT formerly of Rye Brook, NY, beloved husband of the late Ruth A. Cressi Justo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Born on August 12, 1924, in the Bronx, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary Marinaccio Justo. A proud U.S. Army Airforce veteran, he served in two theatres of war during WWII, Alaska and the Philippines and was awarded a presidential citation. He is honored at the New Orleans (https://www.nationalww2museum.org/node/24782 ) and DC memorials. With his wife alongside, together they operated Carpenter Ave. Food Store and Caterers in Bronx, NY for many years.
The store became the social center of the neighborhood because of his friendly personality. Residents, of all ages congregated at the corner store knowing they would have a good time. They also brought their problems to him because he helped solved them. Employees learned business acumen and went on to successful careers. Whether you were from the Bronx or a famous person from Pound Ridge or Bedford where he later worked, everyone was treated the same. He was very hard working, always providing for his family and enjoyed playing tennis, Italian cooking and watching baseball and football, his beloved Yankees and Giants. Above all, his greatest joy in life was time spent with his family; especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His memory and stories will always live in their hearts and he will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving son Emil J. Justo and his wife Maria of Trumbull, three cherished grandchildren, Danielle Justo Martorana and her husband Al, Emil L Justo and his wife Heather, and Michael Justo; five great grandchildren, Trevor, Sarah, Hayley-Mae, Luca, and Siena, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, John Justo, brothers, Anthony, Frank and Alfred Justo and sisters, Jenny Salerno, Bridget Fantino and his twin Eleanor Marinace.
