Spoczywaj w pokoju Rafałku i czuwaj z góry nad Twoja rodzina

To the family of Rafal Ben:
Hello, my name is Lynn Chamberland. My husband is Randy Chamberland. Randy is a good friend and running partner of Rafal. I only met Rafal in person six times, but I feel like I knew him for years. Randy would tell me stories of their running adventures with Rafal, Paul, George and all the other running friends. They were all running brothers and motivated each other to run, bike, and compete to their personal best all the time. I loved listening to the stories. Randy is lucky to have friends like Rafal, Paul, and George. They all looked out for each other while keeping their bodies and minds in good health.
Rafal came to paint the interior of our house in April 2021, He was very meticulous and incredibly detailed about his work. Even his choice of paint color was a process. We finally agreed on a paint color and when he painted the first coat, he asked me if I liked it. Then I asked him, and he said “mm, okay”. I looked at him and said, Rafal how many times do you want to paint this wall and how many colors are we going to choose! Behind his mask, due to Covid, he laughed, especially with his eyes. He only painted in our house for a few days before his tragic accident, but he did a beautiful job! He was a kind and humble man.
After his death, Randy and I prayed and contemplated why this tragedy happened to such a good person. I found this saying that truly fits this moment. It’s not the years in your life, it’s the life in your years. From what Randy told me, Rafal lived a lot of life in his short 50 years. God Bless Rafal’s family.
My prayers to you for comfort every day.
Lynn Chamberland

All the wonderful times spent in the Ben household and with Rafal. The stories he would tell and the knowledge he would share. What a wonderful human being. I am beyond lucky to have known him. I will always remember how helpful and caring he was. God bless.
Love,

Dear Anna and Family,
We never would have felt ready to say good-bye to someone as special as Rafal, but this timing feels especially tough. Wishing your family comfort and strength for the days and weeks ahead. We’ll be praying for all of you.

This turned out to be an epic day, June 22, 2019 : Rafal Ben, Paul Moyse, George Bucanan, and Randy Chamberland ran part of the CT section of the Appalachian Trail where we started at the NY boarder and finished in Kent CT. We did just under 12 miles and 2600 feet of elevation! This took us a little over 3hours then we found a place to swim and cool off. Covid prevented us from continuing our journey in 2020, and little did we know that Rafal would no longer be with us, as we were planning to continue where we left off this year and other planned adventures. Life is so short, and sometimes unfairly cut even shorter as in Rafal’s case! I am so glad that I have these great memories shared with Rafal and our running friends. We will always run with Rafal in our thoughts and will miss him dearly. God bless Rafal and his family, may he continue running beyond this life!

Some of my favorite memories of Rafał was when he would come to our house with a fresh homemade bread. It was always delicious and he’d stick around to chat, have some breakfast, or even help my dad with projects around the house. Rafał was an extremely reliable, kind, thoughtful, fun, and loving person. Forever in our hearts and memories.
