Dear family of Reiner,
We were very sorry to hear about Reiners death.
Just these days, as it would have been the 57th anniversary of his flight to western Germany with my dad, we thought a lot about him. What an amazing person to risk his life for his dreams of freedom.
My dad was always happy to meet him on his visits to Germany or to talk to him on the phone.
I will always fondly remember him taking me on a sightseeing flight.
Our heartfelt condolences.
Kaarina, Marjatta und Ulli-Lutz Naeter

Dear May Family -
So very sorry for your loss. I remember hearing how Mr. May "borrowed" that plane during one after school visit. Thank you for the years of hospitality during Kevin and my school years. I always enjoyed coming over to visit, swim & hear stories.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Amy Rashan

Dear Gretchen, Kevin and Robin,
We were deeply saddened to hear about the death of Reinhard.
Though we may be far away, know that our spirit is with you.
We will always remember Reinhard as a freedom-loving person who made his dream of freedom come true.
Back then, on April 16, 1964, he made history when he fled the GDR by plane in a daring action.
When he arrived in the west, he was welcomed into our family with open arms and we finally had the opportunity to get to know our cousin.
However, West Germany was only a short chapter in his life.
In the 1970s, after several stays, he finally decided to immigrate to the USA, where he found you, dear Gretchen, and sometime later two children, Robin and Kevin, were born.
We still remember the visit from Reinhard and Gretchen to Dinslaken - Eppinghoven on the occasion of their honeymoon, which turned out to be a small family reunion.
Erika and Harald never forget about their exciting time in Connecticut where they were welcomed with open arms.
We hope that you will find the inner strength to get you through this sad and difficult time.
You have our very deepest and sincere sympathy.
