I cannot express how shocked and saddened I was to just learn of Matt’s death. I have know him for many years as our piano tuner. But he was so much more than that. He was quick witted, interesting and so talented. I so looked forward to getting texts from him that it was that time to come for a visit. That is why I knew something must be wrong when I hadn’t heard from him reminding me it was time for my tuning. It just wasn’t like him not to reach out or to respond to a text. Matt helped us with a decision to trade in our Yamaha baby grand for an older Steinway. He even housed my Yamaha at his home until we found a buyer. Each time he would come to tune the Steinway, I would lament that I missed my old Yamaha, to which he would respond in his typical snarky banter (that we will miss so much) that he would take that Steinway off my hands any time I liked. He was a terrific person and his loss must leave a tremendous void for those who were close to him. I am so very sorry for your loss but I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that he has left a lasting impression on those who had the opportunity to meet him. With deepest sympathies, Cristina Benedetto and Rob Laplaca

I don't remember how Matt was introduced to us but it was truly a blessing. For many years, in the brief hour or so that Matt was with us every six months, Matt tuned not only our piano but our lives with his kindness. I would look forward to our conversations on a wide range of topics including his passion for piloting a plane. Matt was always thoughtful when we spoke. Our deepest sympathy to the Areson family and his friends.

I'm so sorry to hear about Matt! I am very fortunate to have gotten the chance to know him. So talented in many things, highly intelligent, funny, witty and such a good person. In 2006 I met up with him at the Quonset Air Show in Rhode Island, he flew in with his father and Kelly, we all had a great time. After the show he was back home eating at a restaurant and I was still stuck in traffic and he said "told you man, get your pilot license and you won't have to sit in traffic at an airshow again." That day is a memory that I will always have and never forget. Such a loss to everyone who knew him... My deepest sympathies to the Areson Family.

Matt was my first friend in kindergarten. We grew up together, got in trouble together, became adults together, helped each other in business and saw every Star Wars movie together. He knew Star Wars trivia! He was a musician, a comedian, and a darn good friend. Now he is a "Force Ghost," with Luke, Anakin, Obi Wan, Yoda and the others. Pay attention because a Jedi Master's spirit never dies. May the Force be with you Matt.

Dear Areson's..
I was so sad to learn of Matt's passing. He tuned our piano for many, many years and also rebuilt the board a few years ago. He was such a nice person. I didn't know him in any other capacity, but having lost my husband suddenly in April , I know how devastating this is. I am so sorry for your loss. The world lost a great guy.

Despite the sadness in my heart, when I think of Matt I have to smile.
I vividly remember the day Scott and I met Matt at Kindergarten orientation at Center School. There was darling little Matt in his denim bib overall shorts. From that day ensued a lifetime of friendship and adventures for Scott and Matt. That all came to an end way too soon. What a loss.
May he Rest In Peace.

My deepest condolences to the Areson family!! Matt was a great colleague and friend! When we were young Matt bought a baseball card from me. I didnt know much about pro baseball back then so I was happy to get some money. He bought a rookie Ricky Henderson card for 75 cents. His exact words to me were " I dont think this guy is going to be worth much." You got me buddy. Lol

Very sorry for all of our loss. Matt was a joy and a light, always brightened a room. He was one of the first friends I made when moving to Trumbull in 4th grade. We always laughed recalling my southern accent and "Voltron toy" when he visited my house the first time! Very missed.

Matt, you are a friend and brother. I’m going to miss you terribly. The photo is Matt and myself as he piloted his plane. I was his first passenger. He was a surrogate uncle to my son and one heck of a musician. Till we meet again my friend.

Matt was such a great guy..... his comedic timing was second to none. I enjoyed working with him and would always look forward to seeing the new Kramer guitar he would pick up or the new analog synth he got.
I will cry when I see you for the last time Matt but I know you will be behind me calling me a "sissy"
Rest easy friend

I’m so very sorry to hear of the passing of Matt, who was my dear friend Athena’s greatest love. It was a privilege to witness their special bond and incredible love over multiple occasions when he would visit Athena in Tampa. The mere mention of his name would bring the biggest and most joyful smile to Athena’s face. It was also so beautiful to see how much he adored her son, Michael, and was committed to his future. I pray for Matt to Rest In Peace and for all of his loved ones to take comfort in the wonderful memories with him.

My cousin Matthew was someone I have always looked up to. Like him, I love all kinds of music but Matthew is musical genius, personified. My family has always lived on the west coast so we didn't know each other as adults but I still have so many amazing memories of his room, as kids, with all of his guitars, amps, and his "music store" of a room. Plus, the music he wrote was amazing. I am so, so sad to have lost him but I know he will live on through the things he loved - especially his music, and also through the love he shared for my Aunt Emy, Uncle George and my cousins, Beth and Daniel. From the Struberts, I send so much love and prayers. Matthew will truly be missed

Warm thoughts and prayers go out to my wife Beth and her family. I was very lucky to have known Matt and have him as my brother-in law. He was one of the smartest guys I ever met and surely had the best sense of humor. I will miss celebrating the holidays with him. His love for Christmas was contagious. He graciously shared his extremely talented piano and guitar abilities to get the party going. You could always count on a precise replication of various lines from almost any movie. His taste for the finer things in life was unparalleled. If you needed to know where the finest dining was in NYC, you would ask Matt. He tried many of them and could give you a fine review of the menu and experience. He was the ultimate trivia buff. Don’t even think of beating him at Catch-Phase or Trivial Pursuit because he know every answer the split-second the question was asked. Some of my most fond memories of Matt were our endless texts regarding The Stock Market. If you needed a great pick, Matt could supply it. Matt always seemed to buy low and hold forever. He taught me so much and will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace Matt. With love, Ron.
