Obituary of Stephen Joseph Moran

Stephen Joseph Moran, 87, beloved husband of former Bridgeport Mayor Mary Chapar Moran, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at his home in Trumbull on December 26, 2020. A proud, decorated, retired Navy Veteran of 20 years, he is survived by his three beloved children: Sheri Lynn Socci, Mary Christine Moran, and Stephen Michael Moran; four loving and devoted grandchildren: Victoria Socci, Philip Socci, Aidan Kallmeyer, and Alexander Kallmeyer; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two loving sisters-in-law: Nassa Sam and Nasra Capar. Steve grew up on the west side of Bridgeport during the depression years.

Steve worked very hard to help his family during that time and throughout his entire life, having careers with UPS, William B. Meyer, and Airborne Express. He owned and operated Moran's ESSO Service for many years with his brother and ran the S&M Deli in Fairfield for several years with his wife. Joining the United States Navy at an early age, he proudly served during World War II and the Korean War and cherished his military memories and service throughout his life. He thoroughly enjoyed watching World War II movies and any movie with John Wayne. Steve, and his wife Mary, also enjoyed dancing at both the Ritz and Pleasure Beach ballrooms for many years.

Steve was pre-deceased by his parents Charles Edward and Irene Curry Moran, brother Charles Moran and wife Katherine, sister Clare Scavetta and husband Frank, brothers-in-law Albert and Nicholas Chapar, (and their spouses Stella and Barbara), and William Sam, Sr. Steve will be remembered most as a loving, loyal, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind, gentle, loving man, and his family and Irish heritage meant the world to him.

A walk-through visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 11:30am – 1:00pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road in Trumbull. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects, and exit without lingering to ensure that all guests can come through the building. Internment with military honors will take place at 1:45pm in Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Avenue in Bridgeport. Follow sign #1.  Friends are invited to attend, but face masks must be worn, and social distancing guidelines should be observed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Haven Veteran's Association, 950 Campbell Avenue, West Haven, CT 06516.
