With a heavy heart I received sad news that my dear friend Damien has departed this world. I have known Damien for 20+ years and he was hilarious. He was always playing jokes on me and Michael Harris as well.
Karl-Graf’s record store was our first encounter. Christina, I am so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace my friend.

Christina, I am so sorry for your loss. Damian was a great guy. I often miss our talks with him, when he would come to his mom’s house in Bridgeport. Our prayers are with you.

I met Damian last year when I came to New York to work. I ended up working with him everyday for 6 months before going back home. I've learned some very valuable lessons from him that I will retain for the rest of my life. I loved that he always had something going on and would use any available time he had to stay busy and enjoy life. I will never forget every single day he would bring his thermos of coffee into work. When we reached a certain checkpoint in our work, he would always share some with me. He will truly be missed. My condolences to the family.

In sure im one of many guys from oakpoint that can say damien was a stand up funnie guy. Always with a smile on his face with jokes. Needless to give u the many nick names he gave me and believe me we are talking at least 19yrs of it. I think most of all is when i realize he was truly a freind let alone a coworker is when he would call me when i was at a low point n my career more than once when i expected my own family members and freinds he would say Spann hang n there , c u when u get back. Col ,im gonna miss u bro, always appreciated ur support and i will continue to save a stray cat or two instead of getting one from the shelter. Until we meet again may God bless ur family and Rip Spann.

When I first came to Oak Point to work, Damian took me in as a fellow co-worker then as a friend. He always gave me advice on what needed to be done and how to carry myself as a new conductor in NY. He always looked out for the young conductors to keep us out of trouble. There was never a day that we didn't laugh and joke. He would always bring me some of the food he himself would cook. One time that always sticks out in my mind about how personable Damian was is the time when my wife and daughter came to the job and he took the time to come out of the crew room to say hello and play with my daughter and he gave her a stuffed animal. This was the type of person Damian was, always giving, laughing and making others feel comfortable. He will be greatly missed. Our condolences to his wife and loved ones. May God continue to bless you and give you strength during your time of bereavement..

I’m so thankful that we were able to reconnect over the last few years, spending weekends with you and your lovely wife in NYC. Your knowledge of music, movies, food and politics never ceased to amaze me, always well read and passionate about wherever the discussion took us - trying to keep up with your encyclopedic knowledge was futile!
And of course, there were the stories. Nobody could spin a yarn like you. Occasionally a repeat story might sneak in there, but they were never dull, and always ended with a good laugh, or some kind of sarcastic twist. Your sense of humor and razor sharp wit was a joy to be around.
I’ve known you for over 30 years now. I was fortunate to inherit your friendship through my wife, as the two of them have stayed the best of friends since their late teens. Both you and Chris have always had a special place within our family, whether never missing a birthday or attending a bar or bat mitzvah. You were Uncle DamDam to my kids.
I write this still in disbelief that you’re no longer with us. I will miss you dearly, my friend. If there is a better world after this one, I know you will be there.

Damian was a true “mensch”, and I loved him dearly. Salt of the earth. Said what he meant, and meant what he said. He had strong convictions, and a huge, loving heart to match. From the moment I met him, I knew he was Christina’s perfect match, and they loved each other deeply (as evidenced by the fireworks at their wedding, which I continue to tease them mercilessly about). I dubbed him DamDam, which is how we always addressed him; my children know and love him as “Uncle DamDam”.
Spending time with him was always full of good stories, obscure information, movie and music recommendations, vehement opinions, great food, even better drinks, but above all, endless laughter.
I will always miss that sometimes crusty exterior (fully intended), which belied his soft underbelly and teddy bear interior. He didn’t often show me his emotional, sentimental side, but I will always remember our “Superfriends” trip to Nantucket 20+ years ago, during which one of our friends had a terrible accident that he witnessed firsthand. He told me the story again recently, as his eyes welled up with tears, about how he stayed with her while they waited for a medevac, and he was afraid she wouldn’t survive (she did, thankfully). He still felt that deeply, years and years later, and unabashedly shared his feelings with me.
DamIan, I will never forget your love, your light, your hugs, your stories, your convictions, your friendship. Your memory will eternally be a blessing to me, and everyone whose lives you touched. I love you, DamDam.
