Obituary of Anne Vitrella

Anne (Pirrello)Vitrella passed to her eternal rest on 23 June 2020 in Sunrise, FL, where she was cared for by her loving daughter Joyce (Vitrella) Campanaro, and granddaughter Diane Campanaro. Anne and her husband of 64 years, Guido (1923-2010), were residents of Bridgeport and Shelton, CT prior to moving to Joyce and Diane's house in Florida in 2010.

Anne was born in Bridgeport on 23 December 1922. Her parents, Cosimo Pirrello, and Fortunata "Mary" (Locasio) Pirrello were both born in Sicily.

Anne dedicated her life to her husband Guido, a proud Italian-American World War II veteran, a Central High School teacher and Head of the Language Department. Together they raised three children in Bridgeport, Joyce, Sal, and Dennis.

Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Great-Great Grandma, and Auntie Anne was loved and adored by her 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.  Anne is remembered fondly for teaching many of her family to read and write (print and cursive), to love books and the library, to cook, to sew, and to host family and friends.  She taught many generations the family's Sicilian and Neapolitan culinary and cultural traditions. To know Anne was to be fed by her.

She was very close to her siblings, Joseph Pirrello, Josephine (Pirrello) Vitrella, Mary (Pirrello) Whelan, and Sadie "Jean" (Pirrello) Caputo. Their children and grandchildren remain close to Anne to the present.

Anne will be buried Friday 26 June at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford next to her Guido.   Rev. Victor Martin, a lifelong friend, and the son of Anne's best friend, Terry Martin, will officiate.  Pallbearers are Joseph Vitrella, Ralph Dioguardi, Carl Dioguardi, grandsons Christopher and Aaron Sepot, and Carl Rodia.

The family appreciates the presence of her beloved niece, Bernadette (Vitrella) Dioguardi, her husband Ralph, and their families, and Helen (Campanaro) Rodia and her husband, Carl Rodia, for representing the family at the gravesite.

Granddaughter Lori Campanaro will organize a virtual Zoom Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Martin. Contact the family for date and time.
