The Life Of Reginald Honychurch

Charles Reginald Honychurch died suddenly on July 24, 2019 in his home in Trumbull, CT.

He was born Charles Reginald Ralph Honychurch in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on February 15, 1942. He was the son of the late Charles C. Honychurch and the late Helen Tilt Honychurch.

Known as Reg or Reggie, he moved to Trumbull, CT with his parents in 1946. He attended Center School and Middlebrook School in Trumbull and graduated from Harding High School, in Bridgeport, Class of 1959.

During his teenage years, during the summer he worked as a counselor at Camp Hi Rock, a YMCA camp close to the Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts borders. He also worked as a lifeguard at Lakewood, another YMCA camp located in Monroe, CT.

He attended the University of Bridgeport and in the mid 1960s went into the family business in Trumbull; Honychurch Realtors, selling real estate.

During the decades from the 1960s to the 1980s, he raised his family in Newtown, CT.

In the early 1980s he became one of the first mortgage brokers in Fairfield County to complete clients' 1st mortgage applications at a time and place of their choosing, often times in their homes. Prior to this, those applying for a 1st mortgage usually had to go to a bank branch during regular business hours.

At the time it was a revolutionary change in the mortgage application process, one that soon caught on and now has become the industry standard.

He was a gregarious, outgoing person who will be sadly missed by family and friends.

He was predeceased by his son Adam Honychurch.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Zwart and her husband Fred Zwart, of Essex, MA, four grandchildren; Benjamin, Abigail, Elizabeth and Andrew Zwart, a brother Douglas Honychurch and his wife Phyllis, of Trumbull, a sister Maureen Honychurch-Matz, of Newtown, a sister, Beverly Honychurch, of Fairfield and seven nieces and nephews.
