Obituary of Dorothy O. Voccola
Dorothy (Dee) O. Voccola, beloved wife of James J. Voccola of Shelton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Dee was born on August 18, 1941 to the late Frederick and Dorothy Hine Stockman in Bridgeport. She grew up in the “Hollow” and graduated in 1959 from Central High School. She was a proud graduate, Class of 1962, of the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Bridgeport.
Nursing was her passion and gift. She was an OB/GYN nurse at Bpt. Hospital and then Head Nurse OB/GYN at the former Park City Hospital for over 20 years. After leaving the hospital, she worked at Southwest Community Center and finally as a visiting nurse, specializing in Pysch and substance abuse.
She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Throughout her life, she served in the Altar Guild, was a member of the choir, and was a lector in the various churches she attended.
Dee was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. In addition to her husband, Jim, other survivors include a daughter, Ann Cote Tolster (James) of Bpt., two sons, Timothy Morris (Marie) of Stratford, Christopher Morris (Dollene) of Inverness, FL, Jim’s children whom she loved like her own, Debra Voccola (Greg) of Deltona, FL and James Voccola (Steve Wight) of Wallingford. Grandchildren, John, Catherine and David Cote, Brittany Gustafson, Anthony and Victoria Morris and Adam and Parker Voccola-Wight, Great Grandchildren, Riley, Danica and Lorenzo. Also survived by her loving sister, Elizabeth Charest and brother Fred Stockman (Peg) as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to CT Hospice, Theresa, her cousin Debbie and great friends Connie and Carol, who were the best caregivers and allowed her to stay at home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. directly in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 25 Great Hill Rd., Oxford. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
