Obituary of David C. Mencel, Sr.
David C. Mencel, Sr., age 63, of Stratford passed away peacefully on June 1, 2018 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Donna (Cardellichio) Mencel. Born in Bridgeport on December 12, 1954, he was the son of the late Frank and Nettie (Drachowsky) Mencel.
David worked as a technician for ASML Corporation in Wilton for the last 40 years. He was very proud to be the Financial Secretary for the Germania Schwaben Club, where he built lasting friendships. He looked forward to attending monthly dinners at the East End Yacht Club and was a member of the Elks. He was a true "jack of all trades" and could build or fix anything. He was a quietly generous man, always willing to help others in need, but never seeking attention or thanks for his good deeds. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 42 years, Donna, other survivors include his loving children, Denise Dumas and her husband Mark of Stratford, David C. Mencel, Jr. and his wife Julie of Menomonee Falls, WI, his cherished grandchildren, Liliana and Annaliese Dumas, his aunts, Dorothy Amore and her husband Vincent of Guilford and Elizabeth Cardellichio of Bridgeport, a brother-in-law, Robert Cardellichio and his wife Martha of Milford, his nephew and godson, Zachary Cardellichio of Milford, his brother, Richard Mencel and his wife Joan of Huntington and their children Mark and Michael, as well as several cousins and many dear friends, including his faithful canine companions, Lucky and Roxie and his cockatiel, Sonny.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mark Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
