Obituary of Eleanor E. Seaman

Eleanor Alice (Ekblade) Seaman died on October 11, 2017 at the age of 86 after a prolonged illness. Eleanor was born on September 15, 1931 in New Haven, Connecticut. She lived in Hamden and Cheshire, CT, and most recently in Williamsburg, VA. She is predeceased by her daughter Susan (Seaman) Goldhammer, and her parents Alice (Winkel) Ekblade and Theodore Ekblade. She was the mother of John L. "Jay" Seaman, Jr. and his wife Martha Lasko Seaman, and the grandmother of Kelly Goldhammer and Emily Goldhammer.

Eleanor graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Pembroke College (Brown University) with a Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Mathematics, from Southern CT State University with a Master's Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education, and was a doctoral candidate at Teachers College, Columbia University. She conducted doctoral research, is published, and has conducted many workshops across CT on the topics of math anxiety and restoring mathematical confidence.

Eleanor was an Associate Professor at Quinnipiac University in the mathematics department. Eleanor was a technical writer at QuoData and worked as the computer services liaison at Area Cooperative Educational Services. In addition to work in these technical fields, Eleanor also enjoyed creative work as a florist and flower arranger.

Eleanor was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority for Women Educators in both CT and Williamsburg, VA. She was a member of Bruton Parish Episcopal Church in Colonial Williamsburg where she was an active volunteer in the Parish's gift shop. Eleanor also was a long time member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Cheshire, CT where she was a member of the altar guild. Eleanor volunteered at Jamestown Settlement. Eleanor was an avid bridge player, having achieved the level of Bronze Life Master. Eleanor loved flowers, loved to garden, and also loved to sew. She enjoyed attending UCONN Husky Women's basketball games and traveling to the Final Four tournaments across the country.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 59 Main Street, Cheshire, CT, followed by interment at Beaverdale Memorial Park in New Haven, CT.
