Obituary of Leonard Andrew Iancale
Bridgeport Firefighter
Leonard Andrew Iancale, age 66, is at peace after a valiant battle with Leukemia that ended on December 14, 2011. Born in Bridgeport on October 27, 1945 to the late Maria Hanko and James V. Iancale, Sr. He was a long-time Bridgeport resident before retiring to Florida. Len attended Bridgeport Public Schools and graduated from Bullard Havens Tech in 1963. He served in the US Navy from 1966 to 1968 and worked at General Electric from 1968 to 1971 until joining the Bridgeport Fire Department where he retired as a Pumper Engineer in 1992. He also worked for the City of Bridgeport's Board of Education in the security department at Blackham School from 1994 until his retirement in 2000 when he moved to Florida. Aside from his love for family and friends, Len was best known for his talent on the baseball diamond. He played for well known local coaches like Sid Englander and Frank Piasciak and alongside some of the most talented players of his generation. He was an All Star with the 1957 Park City Little League, Played Senior City Ball with the Highlanders and also played for Charlie Rich and the Royals. He played on numerous local teams as well as Miller Buick State Champions and The New York Statesmen where he won 3 National Championships in the 90s. He played on the Bridgeport Fire Department Softball Team, and organized and competed in 20 National Firefighters Muscular Dystrophy Tournaments in MD. He was inducted into the Connecticut ASA Slow Pitch Hall of Fame in 1998. After relocating to the Villages Florida in 2001, Len played on teams and won several league championships while playing in the Senior Softball Leagues there. In addition to softball, he spent many years bowling and participating in the Firefighters Local 834 Christmas Hospital Visitation for children. Len became an avid golfer known for his smooth eight iron and his life-long battle with his dreaded Pitching Wedge. He was famous for his sense of humor and quick wit. Anyone who knew him has experienced his Lennyisms . They will keep his family and friends laughing for years to come. He also enjoyed cheering for his favorite teams, the New York Yankees and the UCONN Huskies.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Roseann Manzi Iancale of the Villages Florida, daughter of Mary Manzi of Norwalk and the late Vincent Manzi. His daughters who were the love of his life, Christine Magliocco, & husband Renato and Tracey Hammill & husband Gary Jr . and Granddaughters Jayne Marie and Julia Rae Magliocco . Brother and Sisters in Law, James and Patricia Iancale of Port Charlotte FL, Marsha and Steve Kiska, Joan Skinner of Norwalk, Patricia Manzi of Milford . Loving nieces & nephews, Amy and David Primini, Allison and Tony Vallance, John and Barbara Rastocky, Brian Rastocky, Jessica Kiska and Paige Skinner. Funeral Information
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Johns Cemetery, Monroe. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Donations Information
