Obituary of Walter Swenton

Walter Swenton, age 91, of Derby, beloved husband of the late Rose Marie Bernardo Swenton, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Griffin Hospital surrounded by his loving daughters. Born in Olyphant, PA on January 29, 1925, he was a son of the late Michael and Eva Sabath Swenton and was a longtime resident of Bridgeport before most recently moving to Derby. Affectionately known as Melvin or Vladik, Walter was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II. Before his retirement, he was a supervisor with Mobil Chemical for many years. Melvin loved to fish, watch television, spend time with his loving family and pets, and especially go to the casino with his daughters. Survivors include his three loving daughters, Gail Swenton Dorsch of Derby, Deborah Swenton Iannuzzi and her husband Nick of Trumbull, Judy Swenton of Derby, a sister, Mary Rogala, two granddaughters, Michelle Dorsch Aucoin and her husband Tim and Nicole Waickman and her husband Patrick as well as three cherished great grandchildren, Madison, Timmy and Bennett and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Swenton, five siblings, a son-in-law, John Dorsch and his dog, Simon. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff on 1 North at Griffin Hospital. Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
