Obituary of Frances N. Salce

Frances Sorrentino Salce, of Fairfield, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bridgeport on September 24, 1920, the youngest of ten children born to Michael and Lucia Camerota Sorrentino. She was the wife of the late James P. Salce. She is survived by her children, James A. Salce and his wife Noreen of Fairfield, Patrick Salce and his wife Dawn of Manassas Virginia, Gary Salce and his wife Barbara of Fairfield, and David Salce of Fairfield, a special niece and nephew, whom she helped raise, Anna Mary Faustine Janda and Kenneth Faustine, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Christopher, Pat, Frank, Anthony, and Benjamin Sorrentino and her sisters Lena LaMacchia, Josephine Peeso, Ann Catandella and Mae Watkins predeceased Mrs. Salce. A graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross during World War II. In 1960 her husband suffered a stroke. She then became a hairdresser and worked out of her home for many years. This allowed her to care for her husband and children. Throughout her life she demonstrated enormous faith and perseverance. She was a single parent, a devoted wife, and always helped others. Her life was an inspiration for all that new her, especially her children and grandchildren. At her eulogy her grandson AJ spoke these words: " I have never seen anyone with as much faith as my grandma. She said the rosary every day for family, friends and complete strangers. She prayed for me when I was lost and had no faith in my own ability to make the right choices. She taught me to be strong and not place my faith in the objects of the physical world. Instead, make choices that will be everlasting and prepare me for a life in the next world. She knew she had created a place in heaven. Grandma, you are where you've wanted to be for a long time, so I give you these words from Psalm 116:15. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Forever and always in my heart, I love you. AJ." Private family funeral services were conducted for Frances Salce and entombment was in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
