Obituary of Nicholas Giaquinto

Nicholas Giaquinto, Sr., age 74, recently of Monroe, Connecticut, succumbed after a long and courageous battle with cancer. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his loving family at his daughter and son-in-laws home in Manhattan. He is now at peace with the good Lord.

Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (Davis) Giaquinto and their children Karen Giaquinto-Narain, Nicholas Giaquinto, Jr., and son-in-law, Anand Narain. All who have been sources of great comfort and love throughout his illness. He is also survived by his father, Joseph L. Giaquinto, Sr. and his brother, Joseph L. Giaquinto, Jr. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Lottie (Bonkowski) Giaquinto and his beloved sister, Lottie Gabriel-Giaquinto. There are many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins throughout New Jersey, Connecticut, Georgia, Seattle and Florida who loved and adored him.

Nick was educated in Bridgeport at St. Marys Elementary School and Harding High School where in 1949 he was New England champion in the 220 yard dash and held that record for 35 years. He then went on to Seton Hall University on a full scholarship where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He received a Masters Degree and 6th year Degree at Fairfield University. Nick had many Track and Field records throughout his college years. At Fairfield University he was the track and cross country coach for 24 years. He also developed the universitys first Invitational Track and Cross Country Meets. He went on to become head coach at Central High School until 1995, coaching indoor, outdoor and cross country track events until he retired. His coaching achievements were many; his team accomplished the M.B.I.A.C. track titles 10 times, and many of his students were State Indoor and Outdoor Track Champions and were awarded college scholarships. Nick was a great teacher and coach and it gave him great pleasure to assist his students to achieve scholarships for their education. Nick was the recipient of many awards and numerous titles; he was recognized by many State, City and Private Organizations. Nick was a world class runner. He competed in the Masters National championships for 3 years representing the U. S. A., here and abroad. He was touched by many lives and had a rewarding life himself. He was One of a Kind who enjoyed life, loved his family, card playing, trips to the casino, joke telling, running and lunches with his friends. He will forever be missed by all who loved and cared for him. 

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. He will be laid to rest in Monroe Center Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
