Obituary of Michael A. Turiano

Michael Turiano age 95, of Stratford, a retired licensed electrician, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Bridgeport Manor. Born in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Antonio and Rosaria Gullotta Turiano, and was a World War ll U.S. Army Airforce veteran. Mr. Turiano retired from the Bridgeport Brass Company and owned and operated Turiano Electrical Contracting. He gave his time, talent and spirit to the people of the Town of Stratford and served as a Commissioner of the Waterfront Authority and served as a State Representative of the 120th District under Governor Ella Grasso. He fought for better education, for labor and fought against all sales tax and to lower utility rates. He fought against automatic fuel cost adjustments and fought for medicare and against social security cuts and many other things that affected the average citizen. Mike was the only State Representative to give back 10% of his pay and felt others should do the same, but they never did. He also served as a Justice of the Peace, was a member of the Holy Family Retreat Center, West Hartford for over 50 years, was a member of the Bridgeport Brass Quarter Century Club and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Mike will be remembered for randomly passing out half dollar coins to family, friends and people who he did not even know.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Rachel Turiano, a daughter, Patti Hudak and her husband Nick of Bridgeport, a son, Michael A. Turiano and his wife Marion of Milford, grandchildren, Lisa Zarcone and her husband Rusty of Florida, Lori Dalling and Kurt Muratori, Michael R. Turiano, Christine Turiano, Rachel Turiano, Thomas Turiano and his wife Kara and Stacy Turiano and their mother, Diane Turiano, Madeline Turiano and great grandchildren, Aryion and Jacob Petrelle, Emma and Connor Turiano and Raffaela Zarcone, and many nieces and nephews, and close friend Robert Marcone of Trumbull. He was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony, Louis, George and Samuel Turiano, and sisters, Mary Turiano, Julia Vozzo and Gaetana Casablanca.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff from Vitas Hospice, Triple A Nursing Agency, the private caregivers at his residence and Bridgeport Manor. You are angels and we were blessed to have you in our lives. 

Private family funeral services were conducted by the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
