Obituary of Earle C. Sullivan

Trumbull Resident Earle C. Sullivan, age 99, of Trumbull, died on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at the Virtua West Jersey Hospital in Vorhees, New Jersey. Mr. Sullivan was born in Springfield, MA on November 2, 1906 and was the son of the late William and Anna Seery Sullivan. Two weeks later, his family moved to Bridgeport and he lived in the Bridgeport-Trumbull area the rest of his life. In 1926, he graduated from Bridgeport High School where he was active in track and field and captained the varsity in his senior year. He graduated from Catholic University in 1930 with majors in chemistry and engineering. As a freshman and sophomore, he anchored the mile relay team in the Penn Relays. He taught science and mathematics in Bridgeports Central High School for 13 years followed by ten years as an R&D engineer with General Electric, earning nine U. S. patents. He returned to teaching in 1967 at Trumbull High School for 17 years, 12 years as Chairman of the Science Department. During that time, he received five National Grants for summer study of the new developments in sciences and computers. He was a member of the American Chemical Society until his retirement. He was also a member of the New York Mineral Club, the New Haven Mineral Club, the F & O Mineral Society, the Bridgeport Mineral Society and the Sierra Club. He authored the booklet History and Minerals of Old Mine Park for the Trumbull Historical Society, of which he was a charter member. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Van Stone Sullivan, his daughter, Nancy Williams of Williamston, MI and several nieces and nephews. A brother, William pre-deceased him. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Prior to the funeral services, friends may call on Thursday morning after 8:45 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
