Obituary of Gloria L. Sorlie

Gloria Sorlie, age 85, died peacefully on December 13, 2013 at Bishop Wicke surrounded by her family. Gloria was born in Manhattan, NY, the daughter of the late Bruno Petrinca and Giuseppina Collanovich. She was formerly of Brooklyn, NY and currently resided at Bishop Wicke Health Center in Shelton. She met her late husband Finn while he was working on Norwegian cargo ships and they were married in Brooklyn, NY where they built their lives together and were happily married for over 50 years. Before her first job interview, Gloria was stuck without transportation but made it on time by riding in a banana truck to New York City. She got the job and this determination and vibrant spirit stayed with her throughout her life and touched all she met. She read The New York Times from cover to cover each day and loved conversing with family and friends on topics from international news to fashion. She was the consummate caregiver, always available to nurture her grandchildren with love and affection. Gloria is survived by her devoted family, a son John Sorlie and wife Karen Faulding-Sorlie of Poughkeepsie, NY and her daughters, Linda Ferraro and husband Richard and Lisa Sorlie of Shelton; her grandchildren, Michele Dickstein and husband Seth, John Re and wife Stacie, Eric Sorlie, Beth DelCarmen and husband Alberto, Rich Ferraro, Chris Ferraro and her great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Sarah, Emily, Johnny, Grace, A.J., Isabel, all who loved her dearly. She is also survived by her dear cousins Dario Carapella and Fulvia Pozzo in Italy, brother-in-law Karl and wife Kristina, sister-in-law Aud, and nieces and nephews in Norway. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York. Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 4 8 p.m.
