Obituary of Florence D. Mitchell

Bridgeport Resident Florence D. Cummins Mitchell, age 95, of Bridgeport, died peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport on April 17, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Florence Miller Cummins. A retired registered nurse, she earned her LPN degree at the St. Vincents School of Nursing and she earned her RN with Associates Degree from the University of Bridgeport Nursing program. She worked for many years at St. Vincents Medical Center and Fairfield Hills, retiring as the head nurse. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. Florence was a very loving and caring person who will be deeply missed. Survivors include seven children, Marylin Liggins of West Haven, Jerome E. Mitchell and his wife Rochelle of Milford, Morton Mitchell and his wife Okcha of Oxford, Florence Sharp of Bridgeport, Mark D. Mitchell and his wife Carolyn of Bridgeport, Joel Mitchell and his wife Karyl of Maryland and Hope Brewer and her husband Warren of Bridgeport, 30 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and a great great grandson as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two daughters, Deborah Faith Forizs and Doreen Mitchell, two sisters and one brother. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Patrick Church, 851 North Ave., Bridgeport on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
