Obituary of Surverne W. Miller

Surverne Watkins-Miller, age 57, went before the LORD on December 5, 2004 in Saint Raphael's Hospital in New Haven, CT. She was the daughter of Surverne Ruff and William Walter Watkins. Surverne resided and was active in the New Haven community for over 21 years. Survernes early life and education took place in the Bridgeport area. She continued her education at South Central Community College in New Haven, CT and Franconia College in Franconia, NH where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in social work in 1977. She later enrolled in the criminal justice program in 1980 at the University of New Haven. Surverne worked as a social worker, co-director of a youth residential center, director of the Urban League employment program, and consultant for a variety of ethnic community organizations. For the past eight years Surverne has worked as a social worker for Physicians Health Services, now Health Net in Trumbull, CT.

Surverne's loving husband, for the past 40 years, Terry Miller was by her side at the time of her death. She also leaves to mourn her three loving children, Terry Jr. of Greenwich, CT, Russell and his wife, Tricia of Meriden CT., and her daughter Delores currently attending North Eastern University, Boston, MA, a brother William Watkins, Jr. of Choctaw, OK., sisters, Marcia Gail Buster and Billie Jean Rivers both of New Haven, CT., Jenny Ginger Powell of New Rochelle, NY., Idella (Walter) Forde of Marietta, GA., and Sunnye Raye Watkins of Pittsburgh, PA. She was pre-deceased by a brother Donald J. Langston. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Services will take place directly on Friday, December 10, 2004 at a time to be announced in the Messiah Baptist Church, 210 Congress St., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Milford Cemetery, Milford. Friends may call on Thursday, December 9, 2004 from 4-8 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
