Obituary of Ann C. Kozar
Ann Kozar, a resident of Bridgeport for 39 years, and formerly of Norwalk, passed away Sunday, January 5th 2025 after a brief illness.
Ann was born in Queens NY of Joseph Clemens Gretter and Alice Wolter and grew up in the Silvermine area of Norwalk. She attended Norwalk Schools, graduating from Norwalk High in 1950. She played saxophone in the Norwalk High School band and sang in the choir at St. Mary’s Church.
Ann married Frank Kozar in 1954, whom she met while working at Automatic Signal Corporation, and raised five children together before divorcing in 1980. She operated her own Bookkeeping company, Quality Bookkeeping Services, working with a variety of clients in Fairfield County and New York City.
Ann loved all animals (especially her cat Pepper). She loved to share trips to Seaside Park where she spent many afternoons admiring the sea birds, deer, and beautiful cloud formations. These brought her a sense of awe and wonder. She was an avid athlete and played doubles tennis well into her 80s. Ann loved skiing, hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, and golf. She enjoyed travel and did so with her large group of friends as well as clubs and groups of which she was a member. Ann was active at the Trumbull and Easton Senior Centers where she enjoyed many friendships, took art classes, and played Pinochle, Mexican Train, and Bingo. Ann had an enduring group of friends - including Ester, Audrey, and her dear friend Marga.
Ann is survived by her children, Lynn (Tony) Brunetto of Waynesburg PA, Jeff Kozar of Bridgeport CT, Alison Kozar (Zaque Meyers) of Trumbull and Laurie Kozar of Peacham VT, as well as 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and her loving sister Alice Bedell of AL. She was predeceased by her late son, Frank L. Kozar and brother Gary Gretter.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Ann’s life on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Friends and relatives may greet the family on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon prior to the service.
